Using carefully broken shards of colored glass, Polish artist Marta Klonowska assembles translucent animals in life-like proportion and size. Almost all of her sculptures are based on animals found in baroque and romantic paintings by such artists as Peter Paul Rubens or Francisco de Goya next to which they are often displayed. Her work appeared most recently at European Glass Context 2012

Pond uses all mater of scrap metal from motorcycle parts to old gears, steel handles, and other found hardware to weld these imposing, well-armored birds, fish, and other beasts. Watch the time-lapse above to see how he works.

                                      John Piccoli

John Dilnot is a man after my own heart. Using clipped illustrations of birds and months he arranges them to create beautiful dioramas within wooden boxes. Dilnot frequently lines the interiors with antique maps and arranges the birds in small flocks, setting them on perpetual cartographic journeys. You can see an archive of John’s work here and some boxes that are still available here. He also sells prints and postcards.

Lauren Ryan

California-based artist Lauren Ryan skillfully constructs life-like animal sculptures using nothing more than pipe cleaners (also known as chenille stems). The bent, curled, and woven into one another to produce these remarkable figurative structures. The fuzzy materials also add to the believable texture of each creature, mimicking the respective animal's fur.

Nick Mackman

''Observing lion cubs sleeping on their backs

with their legs akimbo shows the security they

gain from being part of such a large strong

family'' When it was time to sculpt them, Nick

wanted to show the cubs in this vulnerable

state.

Reptiles, Birds and Insects

For this assignment I had to do research on birds, reptiles and insects. I picked the best few I liked ad printed them out to later use as source material to draw from. The pictures I chose are all in high definition because I wanted to be able to see the details on the creatures so it's fun and a challenge for me when I draw from these.
